Findings
- first 4 decades of life (84%)
- asymptomatic (40%)
- chest pain, dyspnea, respiratory infection,
wheezing, cough, dysphagia and pneumothorax
Location
Mediastinal (85%)
- middle (79%), posterior (17%), anterior (3%)
- subcarina (52%), paratrachea (19%),
esophageal wall (14%), retrocardiac area (9%)
Extramediastinal (15%)
- lung parenchyma, diaphragm, pleura
Imaging
Findings
- sharply marginated
- round, oval or lobulated contour
- homogeneous
- water attenuation or soft tissue attenuation
- non-enhancement (77%)
mural enhancement (23%)
- calcification (10%) : cyst wall or cystic content
Treatment
Removal
- symptomatic cyst
- asymptomatic cyst in young adult
Wait and see
- asymptomatic adult
- high risk patient
