Occurs 24-72hrs after major trauma-associated long bone fracture

Respiratory distress, cerebral abnormalities or petechial hemorrhage

Two pathophysiology

- fat droplets obstruct pulmonary vessel

- embolic FFA directly toxic to pneumocyts

and capillary endothelium

HRCT findings : prior to clinical manifestation

- bilateral GGO and interlobular septal

thickening, centrilobular nodular opacity
